To Die Means You Must First Live

A loved one passes: a mother, father, spouse, child. Your life changes in an instant. All of a sudden, even when the death is expected, someone is gone. Time stops. The moment no one looks forward to has occurred. The reality of death is here.

Somehow, in life, we often manage to allude ourselves in thinking that death is what happens to others; not us; not our families. It is common and natural to want to defend ourselves from an event that would take someone we love away from us.

Death is, contrary to our best efforts, a part of life. As sure as you are born, you will die. What we want to make sure of is that we don’t miss the living in between. Each day on the earth is life; opportunity to share life with others…to love and be loved.
