As The Story Goes…

As the story goes…An elderly man, had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man crying, a little boy went into the man’s yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When the little boy’s mother asked him what he had said to the man, the little boy said, “Nothing…I just helped him cry.”

“Often, there are no words to say; just being there is all that is necessary.

  1. Don’t remember where I read that before, but I remember being struck by the truth in the statement “I helped him cry”. Thank you. http://www.truthfulkindness.com

    • Sorry, forgot to add that my young-onset dementia has really emphasized that truth; there are so many unspoken communications that I expect to continue participating in for a long long time.

  2. You are so right, Bonnie. Too often we don’t realize that words are not necessary.
